Thanksgiving is coming! As a matter of fact, it's almost here! Where has the time gone? November is almost gone.
Our world runs at 100 miles per hour. We all have jobs that take extra hours from us. We have to run the kids to sports practice, play rehearsal, and band camp. Plus we have to help them with school projects and go to parent-teacher conferences. We have to go to the grocery store, buy birthday presents for our dear Aunt Sarah and go back to the grocery store to pick up the items we forgot the first time we were there. Life is hectic! It sometimes seems like we don't have enough time in the day to do everything we need to do.
So I want to ask the question, "Are we thankful?". Are we truly thankful for all of the blessings that we have or are we so preoccupied with our everyday rat race that we are blind to the gifts that God has given us? Do we take our jobs, homes, cars, families, and friends for granted because… well, they've just always been there?
It's a tricky situation, isn't it? We need to do all of these things. They're all things that need our attention. But we need to slow down. We need to take a step back, take a deep breath and see the beauty that surrounds us. We need to see the blessings that God has poured into our lives. We need to feel the love of family and friends and return that love to them.
As the church, we are called to love and to be loved. We are to be blessed and to bless others. This Thanksgiving I urge you to take the time to slow down. To pause… just for a moment, to give thanks to the God of all creation for he has poured out his love and mercy and grace for each of us. And that is truly something to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!
In Christ, Pastor Joe
